Step 3, Filling the grids and spreading the top layer:

For our installation we used washed sand. Remarkably, we are able to use the same type of sand for both final steps: for filling the grids as well as for the top layer.

Durable and Flexible
The grids are capable of withstanding payloads of up to
35,000 lbs./square foot.

Distribution of the filling and the application of the top layer are very easy, because . . .
heavy equipment and
dump trucks  may be used.
The trucks are backing onto the area,
evenly unloading the sand.

The next truck can then drive on top of the previously filled grids to unload.
Tractors may be used during regular, routine maintenance  - as well as during installation - even during the rainy season.

The delivery trucks may be driven on top of the grid during the application process.
Conveniently, the anti-skid cleats on the topsides of each grid allow easy handling while providing excellent traction.
Another ecoraster advantage:
only a 3/4" top layer is required.

Due to its homogenous flexible construction and materials, the grid is both very elastic and durable:
providing extremely stable permanent footing.

BELOW: Photos illustrate the setup of the entire area in detail.
A thin layer of gravel and coarse grit lies underneath the ecoraster.
The filling consists of washed sand.
The same type of sand is used for
the top layer, which is approximately 3/4" to 1 1/4" deep.
